My wife has a 2003 Model Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI. Since she bought it in August there have been problems with starting from cold. It does not do it all the time, however trying to start it results in the engine trying to turn over, however not starting for several minutes. The Focus has had its glow

I have recently purchased a 2009 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6TDCi (109PS) Hatchback. The heater blower is working i.e you set it to 1, 2, 3 or 4 and the blower changes speed/force. The blend control is also working i.e you can point it to windscreen/front vents or foot well etc.

I have an S-Max 1.8 TDCi Zetec 07 plate, that has an intermittent starting problem. Most times it will start OK, but then others it starts and almost immediately cuts out, almost like it has hit a flat spot. You then have to wait anything up to an hour, but typically 5-10 mins before trying to start the car again. At all other times it runs fine.
Injector Programming (TDCi Engines) This function is required by service centres when an Injector needs to be replaced, or there is a driveability problem. For 1.8 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi engines the each injector has a 16-digit calibration code stamped on the body.
Hi all, I bought a 2002 Ford Focus with a 1.8 TDCi diesel engine in it only 80,000 miles, i bought it cheap with the knowledge a few things needed doing. First time i started it, there was no real problems, the car drove ok but there was a bit of black smoke. The second time i started it, it

Check the glowplug fuse, and then test the glowplugs.
OK Grim ..I dont like a problem like this as the last time i personally encountered this type problem it cost me a lot of money .and it was down to cylinder and ring wear inside the engine ..i.e when cold the engine starts becaue the cylinders have contracted but when warm the cylinders are expanded and because a diesel needs good compression and this effects it and makes it hard to start
Bought a Focus MK2 1.8 TDCi a few weeks ago. loving the car so far! for 108,000 miles it really runs brilliantly. I have a problem which I've started noticing for a few days. Sometimes when I try to start the car in the morning it would just click, which I first think that it would be a battery issue or something, but if I try to start the car

Hi All and good evening I have a 2007 Focus 1.8 TDCI and it has developed a couple of issue's that I just can't seem to find and fix. Had the car since 2010 and was brought for going up and down the motorway for work, after about 1 year I was moved to a new office and stop using the car for long Posted December 22, 2009. Hi. On my 2litre diesel in 'normal' conditions the glow plug light comes on and goes straight out again. On sat when the interior temp display was showing -4 the glow plug light was probably on for about a second and went out. With regards cranking, I wait until the glow plug light has gone out and turn the key, engine
Ford Focus - 55 reg Focus 1.8 TDCi white smoke when cold. Hi I recently bought a 55 reg Ford Focus hatchback, a 1.8 TDCi (115PS). I've noticed a bit of bluey-white smoke ( I know that knowing if it's one or the other is useful.) upon a cold start.  The smoke lasts for about 2 minutes before clearing to what looks like nothing more than a little steam.  It isn't especially thick (I

Hi, Just came across this topic.I have had a similar problem. 59 plate 1.6 Focus Zetec. Came to start car at work the other day all I got was clicking and instrument and indicator lights flashing in synch. Got a bump start and drove home usually 12 miles of fast roads but did a few extra to boost charge. Spare battery put on charge just in case

It only lasts for a short time, as little as 30 seconds or less, then it's fine and doesn't miss a beat. At some stage after a cold start, a petrol engine will try to switch from open loop mode to closed loop mode.
HI All I tried to look on the forum for the signs and symptoms of the illness of my Ford but no real joy. My mondeo mk4 2008 2.0tdci has some starting problems, there are days where it start without problems at all, like a new car, but from time to time after few starts there is a dodgy one, it c
I then countered why did the locksmith managed to start the car a week after the problem if it was the ECU burnt. I even drove around and park my car at Tesco. It was only later in the evening, after 5 minutes of warming up the car and as soon as I turned on the headlights, the engine malfunction warning came on.

If you're unsure of the history of the fuel filter then it would be good practice to replace this, the 1.8 diesel does have concerns with the filter blocking up well before it's scheduled replacement interval, if this happens the fuel pressure is too low for starting, also if you do replace the fuel filter check the ZXhXu.
